Joan Hemingway Joan has been a member of Rock Creek since 1998. In 2002 she joined the staff part-time as counselor and became full-time in 2004. She sees individual, couples, and families in need of psychological, emotional and spiritual support. Problems may be related to depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, marriage counseling, or help with a family member. In addition, she leads the divorce recovery group, Rebuilding Life, and is often a speaker at different church functions. "Counseling is what God has called me to do and I feel greatly blessed to be able to do so professionally within my church home.” Along with her staff duties, Joan is also involved in other ministries of the church. She is a leader of a Life Group and also serves as an usher/greeter each Sunday morning. Joan received her BA in Social Work from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and her Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is credentialed as a Licensed Certified Social Worker, as well as, certified in Family Mediation. She has been in practice as a psychotherapist for 20 years and previously worked in a Christian Psychiatric Clinic. In addition, she is often a speaker/presenter at Christian and psychiatric workshops, seminars, and conferences. Joan says her fun and entertainment in life has changed greatly the past 3 years due to all the new life God has brought her way. This includes two new granddaughters, as well as, a “god granddaughter”. They are a real international group since her granddaughter’s father is from Sierre Leone, West Africa, and the “god granddaughter” is from China. Currently, her daughter, Jennifer, and family live in Durham, N.C and her son, Patrick and his wife live in Tucson, AZ. Traveling, needless to say, has become more and more a pastime. Joan, also, enjoys hiking, cycling and other activities that allow her to experience the beauty of nature. “My favorite spot to relax and enjoy nature is at my house on the deck that sits like a tree house among the trees and woods in my backyard.” |
